My anniversary was last month, which means I’ve been thinking back to one of my favorite projects ever — my own wedding.
Designing for an event that personal was such a wild mix of creativity and emotion. Every detail, from the invitation suite to the bar signage, felt like a chance to tell a cohesive story through design.
When I work on weddings now, I still treat them like brand identities — just with more romance and elegance. Every touchpoint should connect, whether it’s a menu, napkin, or tote bag.
A few of my go-to tips for event design:
Think beyond the logo.
Build a whole system — colors, patterns, type — that carries through each piece. For my own wedding, we had a branding sheet (are we surprised!?)
Design for the senses.
Designs for weddings are a bit of a different ballgame because of the variety in deliverables your design will touch. From napkins to dance floor light projections & invites, keep in mind all different textures and visuals.
Keep it timeless.
Choose details that will still feel like you years from now. This isn’t the place to be overly trendy, a mistake I often see.
Seeing everything come together for my own wedding reminded me why I love this kind of work. Design has this quiet power to shape moments and memories in the most beautiful way, and especially at life’s most precious & memorable events.
